WhatsApp Chat Analyzer: Private Chat Statistics From Your Export
Use this free WhatsApp Chat Analyzer to turn an exported .txt conversation into clear, easy-to-read statistics. It can count messages and active participants, rank the top five chatters, identify the most-used words and emoji, count links and media placeholders, show who wrote the longest message, and let you search parsed messages inside the report.
The analysis runs in your browser with JavaScript. The current tool reads the selected file through your browser’s FileReader and does not send the chat text to a server. That makes it a practical privacy-first option for checking a personal conversation or WhatsApp group chat without creating an account.
For the best result, export the chat without media and upload the text file produced by WhatsApp. Results depend on the format and language of the export, so read the compatibility notes below before interpreting the numbers.
What This WhatsApp Chat Analyzer Shows
A raw WhatsApp export can contain thousands of lines, making patterns difficult to notice. This online chat analyzer summarizes the parts that are most useful for a quick review:
- Total messages: the number of message lines the parser recognizes in the export.
- Active members: the number of unique sender names found in those recognized lines.
- Top chatters: the five participants with the highest recognized message counts.
- Media shared: occurrences of the media placeholder used in a text-only export.
- Links shared: messages containing an
http://orhttps://link. - Deleted-message placeholders: lines that contain the standard deleted-message notice; the original text cannot be recovered.
- Conversation starter: the participant who most often sends the first recognized message after a gap longer than six hours.
- Longest-message award: the sender of the longest recognized non-media message.
- Favorite emoji and common words: simple frequency summaries from the parsed message text.
- Message search: a browser-side search across recognized messages, showing up to 20 matches after you enter at least three characters.
These WhatsApp chat statistics are designed for exploration and entertainment. They are not a forensic record, sentiment diagnosis, relationship score, or proof of a participant’s intent.
How to Analyze an Exported WhatsApp Chat
- Open the conversation in WhatsApp. You can choose either a one-to-one conversation or a group chat.
- Export the chat. On Android, open the menu, choose More, and select Export chat. On iPhone, open the contact or group information screen and choose Export Chat.
- Select “Without media.” The analyzer works with the text export. Photos and videos are not needed, and excluding them keeps the file smaller and easier to process.
- Save the text file. Depending on your device and sharing method, it may arrive directly as a
.txtfile or inside an archive. If it is archived, extract the text file first. - Upload the
.txtfile above. The page reads it locally and generates the available statistics. - Review the numbers carefully. If the total is unexpectedly low or zero, the export probably uses a date, time, or language format that the current parser does not recognize.
WhatsApp’s own export feature can include media or omit it. For this tool, “Without media” is recommended because only the text transcript is analyzed. An exported chat file is not a restorable WhatsApp backup, so keep your actual backup separately if you need recovery.
Understanding the Results
Total Messages and Active Participants
The tool counts a line only when it matches the expected WhatsApp export pattern: date, time, separator, sender name, and message. System events, unsupported formats, and continuation lines may not be counted as standalone messages. “Active members” therefore means senders detected in the parsed file, not every person who has ever belonged to the group.
Top Chatters and Conversation Starter
The top-chatters list ranks up to five detected senders by message count. A high count shows activity, but it does not measure message quality or importance. The conversation-starter value uses a six-hour inactivity gap as a new-session rule. It is a useful approximation, not an official WhatsApp metric.
Most Used Words and Emoji
The word summary converts text to lowercase, removes punctuation, ignores short tokens and a basic list of common English and Roman Urdu words, then displays the ten most frequent remaining terms. Names, spelling variants, multilingual text, and attached words can affect the result. Emoji detection also depends on the Unicode pattern supported by the current script, so newer compound emoji may not always be grouped perfectly.
Media, Links and Deleted Messages
Media is counted from the placeholder written into the exported transcript, while links are counted from recognized web addresses in message text. The deleted-message figure counts the notice left in the export. It cannot reveal or restore the deleted content, and notices written in another language may not be detected.
Privacy: Your Chat Is Processed Locally
Chat exports can contain private names, phone numbers, personal conversations, and links. The current WSBot analyzer processes the selected text file in the browser using the FileReader API. Its analysis script does not contain a chat-upload request, so the message text remains in the active browser session while you use the page.
For additional care, analyze only files you are authorized to use, avoid shared or public computers, close the tab when finished, and delete unneeded copies from Downloads or cloud folders. Browser extensions, device malware, screenshots, and your own backup or sync settings are outside this page’s control. Local processing reduces exposure, but it cannot secure an already-compromised device.
You do not need to paste the conversation into an AI chatbot or send it to another person. The statistics are generated from the export you choose on your own device.
Compatibility and Accuracy Notes
WhatsApp export formatting can vary by operating system, language, region, and app version. The current parser is optimized for a common format that uses a numeric date, a comma, time, a hyphen, the sender name, a colon, and the message. It may undercount exports that use square brackets, different separators, right-to-left layouts, localized system phrases, 24-hour variations, or messages continuing on a new line.
If the result looks wrong, confirm that you selected the text transcript rather than a media file, extract the .txt file from any ZIP archive, and check the first few lines in a plain-text editor. Do not manually rewrite a private conversation merely to fit the parser. Instead, treat an unsupported format as a compatibility limitation.
The analyzer does not connect to WhatsApp, read live messages, bypass encryption, access another person’s account, restore backups, or recover deleted text. It only examines the exported file you voluntarily select.
Who Can Use This Chat Statistics Tool?
This chat analyzer for WhatsApp can be useful for group admins reviewing participation, friends exploring group habits, families checking shared-chat activity, community organizers summarizing an exported discussion, or individuals curious about their own messaging patterns. It also provides a quick alternative to manually counting messages in a large text file.
Use the report respectfully. Message frequency is not a reliable measure of friendship, productivity, affection, responsibility, or truthfulness. If a conversation involves other people, consider their privacy and avoid publishing names, quotes, or screenshots without permission.
For other text utilities, you can check a pasted passage with the Word Counter and Character Count Tool, extract numbers with the WhatsApp Number Extractor, or format repeated text with the WhatsApp Text Repeater.
